The City of Santa Clarita is seeking proposals from experienced food service operators to manage The Wheel, the quick-service restaurant located within the new The Rink Sports Pavilion at 20860 Centre Pointe Parkway.

Expected to open in early October 2026, The Rink will become Santa Clarita's premier roller skating destination, welcoming recreational skaters, league participants, tournament teams, families, spectators and community events throughout the year. The restaurant presents a unique opportunity for an operator to establish a business inside one of the City's newest recreation destinations while serving thousands of visitors annually.

The approximately 25,000-square-foot facility features a 12,000-square-foot skating floor that converts into courts for basketball, pickleball and volleyball, creating year-round activity and consistent customer traffic. The Wheel will serve as the facility's primary food and beverage destination, supporting daily recreation programs, leagues, tournaments, birthday parties and special events.

In addition to serving guests inside The Rink, the restaurant includes an exterior walk-up service window that can also serve visitors to the adjacent Santa Clarita Sports Complex, including The Centre, Gymnasium, Aquatic Center, Skate Park and Bike Park. Together, these facilities welcomed approximately 400,000 visitors in 2025, creating an expanded customer base beyond The Rink itself.

The restaurant space includes an approximately 960-square-foot commercial kitchen, a dedicated quick-service ordering counter and the exterior walk-up window. The City envisions a menu featuring high-quality quick-service food and beverage options that can be served efficiently during daily operations and large community events.

The selected operator will also have the opportunity, subject to all applicable licensing requirements and City approval, to obtain a beer and wine license and partner with the City to provide food service for birthday parties, tournaments and other special events hosted at the facility.

Proposals will be accepted through August 26, 2026. Proposal documents are available through BidNet Direct. Interested firms must register through the procurement portal to access the solicitation and submit a proposal.

For more information, contact the City of Santa Clarita at (661) 286-4135.

The city of Santa Clarita is expanding its Film Incentive Program and launching a redesigned Film Santa Clarita website, reinforcing its ongoing commitment to supporting film and television production and keeping filming local.

Since its inception in 2009, the Film Incentive Program has returned more than $862,000 to qualifying productions, helping reduce filming costs through permit fee refunds, hotel occupancy tax rebates and reduced public safety costs. That investment has helped generate more than $212.7 million in local economic impact for Santa Clarita. In the last fiscal year, the city allocated $60,000 to the program and supported 20 productions spanning television, feature film and commercial projects.

The latest updates expand eligibility and make the program more accessible by adding Internet and Web productions, Reality Television, Home Improvement and Competition Shows to the list of eligible production types. Additionally, the city has reduced the qualifying permit threshold for recurring productions from four to three permits, allowing more productions to take advantage of the program’s incentives.

The Film Incentive Program currently offers three incentive opportunities:

Locally Based and Recurring Productions: Permit fee refunds are for locally based productions filming for four or more consecutive weeks and for recurring productions obtaining three or more film permits.

California Film and Television Tax Credit Projects: Permit fee refunds for productions approved through the California Film & Television Tax Credit Program.

Hotel Occupancy Incentive: Hotel occupancy tax rebates for qualifying productions staying in Santa Clarita while filming locally.

Coinciding with the program enhancements, the icty has launched a redesigned Film Santa Clarita website to better serve producers, location managers and production professionals.

The updated website features improved navigation, streamlined permit information, filming resources and an enhanced location library, making it easier than ever to plan and manage productions in Santa Clarita.

Santa Clarita remains one of California’s premier filming locations, offering diverse landscapes, more than 50 sound stages, over 10 movie ranches and the unique Movie Ranch Overlay Zone, which supports long-term filming operations.

In 2025 alone, the city issued 338 film permits and generated an estimated $14.6 million in annual economic impact from filming activity. Santa Clarita’s leadership in the industry was recently recognized by MovieMaker Magazine, which named the city the Fifth Best Place to Live and Work as a Moviemaker among smaller cities and towns in 2026.

Submit a Volunteer Project for Make a Difference Day 2026

Make A Difference Day returns on Saturday, October 24, and the City of Santa Clarita is inviting local nonprofit organizations to submit projects for this national day of service. Eligible 501(c)(3) organizations are encouraged to identify projects where City volunteers can lend a hand and make a meaningful impact across the community.

There is no project too big or too small. Whether your organization needs assistance completing a large undertaking or tackling a smaller task that has been waiting on your to-do list, Make A Difference Day offers an opportunity to connect with volunteers who are ready to help.

In previous years, volunteers have supported local nonprofits by loading supplies for community events, repainting offices, assembling furniture, power washing facilities and caring for animals, including goats and horses. Participating organizations will create and oversee their projects, provide the necessary tools and supplies and guide volunteers on-site. The City will help promote project needs, recruit volunteers and coordinate event logistics.

Project applications are due by Friday, July 31. For more information and to apply, visit SantaClaritaVolunteers.com/Nonprofits.

Koegle Law Group Announces Lucas E. Rowe As Equity Shareholder

Trusted Team Leader Takes Ownership Stake, Deepening the Firm’s Commitment to Clients and Long-Term Stability

VALENCIA, CA. — Koegle Law Group, APC is proud to announce that Lucas E. Rowe has become an Equity Shareholder and Partner of the firm, effective July 1, 2026. This milestone reflects both the firm’s confidence in Lucas and a deliberate commitment to building an institution that serves clients with depth, stability, and leadership well into the future.

What Does ‘Equity Shareholder’ Mean—and Why Does It Matter?

Many law firms use the title ‘partner’ loosely—it can mean a senior attorney, a team leader, or simply someone who has been with the firm long enough to earn a title. Lucas Rowe has been a Partner at Koegle Law Group in every practical sense for years. What changes now is meaningful: as an Equity Shareholder, Lucas owns a stake in the firm itself. In California, law firms structured as professional corporations—like Koegle Law Group, APC—use the term ‘Shareholder’ to describe attorney-owners. That ownership is not ceremonial. It means Lucas has a direct financial stake in the firm’s reputation, its client relationships, and its long-term success. His incentives and yours are fully aligned.

For clients, that distinction matters: you are not just working with an experienced attorney who chose to stay—you are working with someone who has committed to this firm, this team, and this community for the long haul.

Lucas joined Koegle Law Group as a partner-level attorney in June 2024 and has been a cornerstone of the firm’s litigation and counseling practice groups, representing employers and business owners in matters ranging from employment-litigation defense and wage-and-hour compliance to complex business disputes and corporate compliance. He is licensed in California and Ohio and brings deep expertise in the employment and business law landscapes that define the firm’s core practice groups.

“I have worked for several firms over the years,” said Partner Lucas E. Rowe, “and having the opportunity to become a shareholder in a firm led by a powerhouse attorney like Brian Koegle is an amazing opportunity.”

The decision to bring Lucas in as an equity owner is part of a broader strategic commitment by Koegle Law Group to grow as an institution—not simply as a practice built around a single attorney. With Lucas as a Shareholder, every major client relationship has depth and continuity, and the firm’s future no longer depends on any one person.

I’ve always believed that the best firms aren’t built around one person—they’re built around great people. Luke is one of the best attorneys, and men, I have ever known. Making him a Shareholder isn’t a reward for the past; it’s an investment in what this firm has always been designed to become. I genuinely cannot wait to see what we are able to build together."

    — Brian Koegle, Managing Partner, Koegle Law Group, APC

Lucas will continue to serve our existing clients without interruption and will take on expanded leadership responsibilities within the firm, including a seat on the firm’s Executive Committee.

Koegle Law Group represents employers and business owners across the full spectrum of employment law, including litigation defense, HR compliance, wage-and-hour counseling, PAGA matters, and workplace investigations. The firm serves clients from its Valencia, California headquarters and its presence in the Dallas–Fort Worth area.

Beyond Referrals: How Santa Clarita Businesses Can Grow Beyond Word of Mouth SchlickArt

There’s a familiar moment at Chamber events.

A friend comes over, you get to chatting about business, and they say, “Oh! I know who you need to talk to.”

No big sales pitch. No elaborate consultation needed. Just an impromptu introduction that suddenly opens new doors.

That kind of referral matters in Santa Clarita. In this community, relationships carry weight and reputations grow through repeated experiences. People remember who showed up, followed through and took good care of someone they know.

    But referrals also have limits.

They rely on someone remembering you at the right moment, explaining your value clearly, and passing your name along with conviction.

Even then, the person being referred still needs enough confidence to take the next step.

And as a firm grows—adding team members, serving more clients and expanding its footprint in the market—referrals alone may not be enough to carry the brand into its next chapter.

That doesn’t mean referrals stop mattering.

It means your reputation needs to travel further.

Your reputation can only travel so far on someone else’s words. Thoughtful content writing gives it a voice of its own.

When approached with strategy, content writing becomes an extension of the client experience you’ve already worked so hard to create.

Think about what happens when someone works with a professional service firm.

They arrive with questions, confusion or stress. Maybe they’re facing a decision that feels too complicated, too personal or too important to get wrong.

But as they talk it out with their advisor, the process becomes clearer. The next step feels manageable. The anxiety softens. They begin to trust that they’re in capable hands.

    That experience is marketing.

Not in the loud, promotional sense.

    In the deepest sense.

Because people remember how you made them feel when the stakes were high.

And that same feeling can carry into your content.

A blog makes a complex topic easier to understand. A newsletter keeps clients and referral partners connected to your thinking. Educational articles answer questions the reader hasn’t figured out how to ask yet.

Written content helps future clients feel what current clients already know.

At SchlickArt, we help professional service firms turn their expertise, values and client experience into content that builds trust, strengthens referrals and reaches new audiences.

See how one Santa Clarita law firm used thoughtful content as part of a connected marketing strategy—and achieved a 6x ROI.

Joint initiative between DEO and DPSS will provide paid work experience, job training, and employment opportunities for CalWORKs recipients

Los Angeles, CA — The Los Angeles County Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) and the Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) today announced the launch of the Transitional Subsidized Employment Plus Program (TSE Plus), a pilot program designed to connect California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) Greater Avenues for Independence (GAIN) participants to paid employment, job training, and career pathways in high-growth industries. The program is now open for enrollment.

TSE Plus responds to a call by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to examine how the County's safety net and public workforce systems can better work together to support residents in achieving economic mobility and meet the talent needs of local industries. Through a $6 million investment from DPSS and the California Department of Social Services' (CDSS) Expanded Subsidized Employment (ESE) Program, the pilot will serve up to 200 participants across high-need service areas. Program services will be delivered with support from DPSS GAIN Region III San Gabriel Valley and GAIN Region VI Southeast County, and the Pomona Valley and Rio Hondo America’s Job Centers of California, and engage a variety of training providers and employers as worksites and hiring partners.

The TSE Plus Program offers a structured, individualized model that connects participants to one of three program pathways based on their experience level and career goals. This includes up to a year of paid work experience, job training through worker and industry-informed High Road Training Partnerships, and direct matching and on-the-job training with hiring employers. The pathways are designed to meet participants where they are and deliver support, skills, professional experience, and wages. All participants receive work-readiness training, financial and digital literacy instruction, career counseling, and assistance in obtaining a job with family-sustaining wages upon completion of the program. Childcare, transportation assistance, and other supportive services are also available throughout the program.

“Far too often, our workforce and public benefits systems operate separately, leaving families to navigate unnecessary barriers on their own,” said Los Angeles County Board Chair and First District Supervisor Hilda L. Solis. “This pilot reflects a more coordinated approach that recognizes people should be able to pursue career growth without losing the support they rely on to care for their families. Los Angeles County is making targeted investments that help residents strengthen their long-term economic stability while meeting the evolving needs of our regional economy.”

“Everyone deserves the opportunity to build a stable career and provide for their family, but too often our systems are not designed to help people take that next step,” said Fourth District Supervisor Janice Hahn. “This program helps our CalWORKs participants get paid experience, job training, and a real pathway into good-paying jobs in growing industries. I am hopeful this creates real economic opportunity for people that lasts.”

"The TSE Plus Program will help our local workers earn wages while building the skills, experiences, and financial security they need to access quality jobs and careers that meet their family needs and drive inclusive and sustainable growth in our economy,” said Kelly LoBianco, Director of DEO. “Together, DEO and DPSS are rethinking how we connect our safety and public workforce system and ensure economic opportunity and mobility for all.”

“The partnership between DEO and DPSS reflects the County’s commitment to aligning workforce development and supportive services to support GAIN participants on their path toward economic mobility. The TSE Plus Program creates a new approach to connecting our participants to employment opportunities, career pathways, and supportive services,” – DPSS

GAIN participants in the Southeast LA and San Gabriel Valley areas who are interested in the TSE Plus should speak with their GAIN Services Worker to determine eligibility and request a referral. Businesses interested in partnering to host a paid temporary worker may fill out an interest form at bit.ly/TSEemployers.

For more information about the program, visit opportunity.lacounty.gov/TSE or email GAINTSE@opportunity.lacounty.gov.

    Building an Affordable California

Californians will have an opportunity this November to take action to help reduce the costs of building and maintaining the electric grid and other essential infrastructure through the Building an Affordable California Act, which has qualified for the ballot and will appear as Proposition 45. The measure streamlines project approvals by setting firm timelines and reducing duplicative legal challenges — key drivers of cost increases — helping infrastructure projects like those built by SCE move forward more quickly and affordably.

By accelerating delivery of clean energy, transmission, and wildfire mitigation investments, the Act aims to lower overall project costs and help reduce pressure on customer bills while maintaining strong environmental protections. Critical infrastructure projects have faced delays of up to two decades, increasing costs and impacting reliability, underscoring the need for a more predictable and efficient approval process. Learn more about the measure and the growing coalition of supporters at Build Affordable California.

    Upcoming Events

    NALEO 43rd Annual Conference

SCE is participating in the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) 43rd Annual Conference from Jul. 14-16 in Los Angeles. This pivotal event will help strengthen local partnerships and collaboration on energy reliability, affordability and wildfire preparedness. Edison International Vice President of Strategy, Planning & Performance Erica Bowman will speak on the nexus between utilities and data centers.

    Short Stories

Updates to SCE's Main Panel Upgrade Process

SCE is implementing an updated Main Panel Upgrade (MPU) process to align with California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) requirements and improve consistency across service areas. Under this model, MPU work follows a same day disconnect and reconnect approach, where Edison performs the de-energization and re-energization of service, while licensed contractors complete the panel upgrade.

For safety and compliance reasons, panel changes are not permitted to be performed while energized (“hot”), and only authorized SCE personnel may disconnect or reconnect electric service. Additionally, a completed and approved city (AHJ) inspection is required prior to reconnection, and service cannot be restored without verification of that inspection.

We recognize that local inspection practices and resource availability may vary and are committed to working collaboratively with your agency to ensure alignment, support same day coordination, and minimize impacts to customers. If you have any questions regarding this new process, please feel free to reach out to your Government Relations Manager.

New All-Hazard Portal for Public Safety Partners

SCE is committed to supporting public safety partners with timely information and situational awareness before, during and after emergencies. To help partners prepare for a range of hazards, SCE has launched the All-Hazards Portal, a new web-based tool that provides access to key information such as live outage data, storm updates, weather camera views, EV charging station locations and other emergency preparedness resources. Public safety partners, as defined by the CPUC, include local, state and federal emergency responders, water and wastewater agencies, communications service providers, transportation authorities, community choice aggregators and publicly owned utilities. Eligible partners can register for the portal here: All-Hazards Login

Programs to Help Customers Save this Summer

SCE’s Demand Response programs reward customers for reducing energy use during high-demand events, helping them cut down costs while also improving reliability for everyone.

    ·    Smart Energy Program: Participating customers can earn up to $125 in bill credits when they allow their smart thermostat to be remotely adjusted during events.

    ·    Summer Discount Program: Participating customers can earn up to $160 in bill credits when they allow their air conditioning unit to be remotely cycled on and off during events.

QuestionWith the warmer summer weather starting to kick in, what are some helpful tips to help prevent heat illness?

Answer: You can help prevent heat illness by protecting yourself and proactively addressing hydration. Some good tips include:

    ·    Hydrate frequently: Frequently drinking small quantities of water is key. During hot weather, you should drink four, 8-ounce cups of water per hour.

Opportunities for Growth Include Education on True Cost of Water and Water Potability

Customers remain satisfied with the overall performance of SCV Water, according to the results of the Agency’s 2026 Customer Opinion Survey. The survey, conducted by third-party consultant True North Research, discovered that the majority of customers were satisfied with the water service received, as well as SCV Water’s communications, accurate billing statements, and customer service.

“We are pleased to see continued improvement in the level of customer satisfaction. It is also very helpful to hear about areas of concern and ways we can improve our service and communication. The survey results are a testament to our staff’s dedication to meeting our customers’ needs,” said SCV Water General Manager Matt Stone. “We remain committed to providing high-quality water and service to the Santa Clarita Valley community.”

The survey revealed that 93% of customers believe the Agency provides them with reliable water service and communicates effectively about scheduled repairs, service disruptions,

and other water-related issues. There was also a significant jump in customer satisfaction for people who contacted SCV Water, from 68% in 2023 to 81% in 2026.

Continuing Education on Water Quality and Rates

The 2026 Customer Opinion Survey uncovered opportunities for SCV Water to strengthen community outreach and engagement. It is the Agency’s responsibility to ensure that customers feel confident in their water quality and understand the cost of their water service. To gauge the Agency’s performance in those areas, participants were asked about their thoughts on the safety of their water and if SCV Water provides good value for the cost of water services. Results included:

    • When asked if the water they’re provided is safe to drink, 70% of customers were satisfied. That remaining 30% represents an opportunity for improved communication on the water quality provided by SCV Water.
    • When asked their opinion of the cost of water services, 54% of customers felt their bill was too high, which is down 2% from 2023. After clarification that SCV Water provides water at a cost that is less than a penny per gallon, many customers changed their opinions, with 53% saying they get water at an excellent or good value, and an additional 24% believing the rates are fair.

Every business owner asking “should we use AI?” is really asking a simpler question: will it make us more money?

Fair question. So let’s skip the hype and answer it directly - because whether you run a restaurant, a law firm, a medical office, a real estate brokerage, a home service company, or a retail shop, the most repetitive, revenue-leaking tasks in your business can now be handed to AI agents: software that doesn’t just follow a script, but understands context, makes decisions, and takes action across the tools you already use.

We build these systems for a living, right here in Valencia. And after deploying them across more than a half dozen industries, we’ve noticed the revenue gains consistently come from five places. Here’s where to look in your own business.

    1. Every Inquiry Answered - Phone, Chat, or Email

What happens when someone contacts your business at 7:45 on a Tuesday night? For most local businesses, the honest answer is voicemail or an unread inbox and most prospects who hit voicemail simply call the next name on their list.

Modern conversational AI answers every phone call in a natural human voice, responds to website chats, and handles routine emails - 24/7. It books the appointment into your calendar, takes the order accurately, answers the “are you open Sunday?” questions, and hands off smoothly to a human when a conversation genuinely needs one. For appointment-based businesses, a single recovered after-hours call can be worth hundreds or thousands of dollars. Multiply that across a year.

    2. The Back Office That Runs Itself

This is the least glamorous category and often the biggest payoff. Think about the work that happens after the customer says yes: invoices to process, documents to review, data to re-enter from one system into another, new clients or employees to onboard, approvals to chase.

AI-powered process automation now handles complex, multi-step workflows - reading documents, extracting the relevant information, updating your CRM or accounting system, and flagging only the exceptions that need human judgment. Businesses automating these workflows routinely cut manual work dramatically. Run the math on your own operation: your team size × hours per week spent on repetitive admin × average hourly cost. For a typical 10–15 person business, the annual number is usually startling and that’s money you recover without selling anything new.

    3. Sales Follow-Up That Never Drops the Ball

Ask any business owner where deals die, and the answer is rarely “we lost on price.” It’s the follow-up that never happened. The lead that sat in an inbox over the weekend. The quote that was never chased.

An AI sales agent researches and enriches every lead, qualifies it against your criteria, sends personalized follow-ups on schedule, and keeps your CRM updated automatically - so your salespeople spend their time closing, not doing data entry. Speed matters here more than most owners realize: the odds of converting a lead drop sharply within minutes of the inquiry. An instant, intelligent response beats a competitor’s next-morning callback almost every time.

    4. Answers From Your Data, Not Just Spreadsheets

Most local businesses are sitting on data they never use - sales history, customer patterns, seasonal trends, job costs - because nobody has time to dig through spreadsheets. AI analytics agents monitor that data continuously, spot the patterns (which service line is quietly becoming your most profitable, which customers are about to churn, which month you should staff up), and deliver plain-English reports with recommendations. Better decisions, made faster, are a revenue strategy of their own.

    5. Industry-Specific Wins

The most valuable AI isn’t generic - it’s built for how your industry actually works:

    • Restaurants: automated phone ordering, menu recommendations, reservation management
    • Law firms: client intake, legal research assistance, document drafting support
    • Healthcare practices: appointment scheduling, prescription refill automation, patient follow-up and reminders
    • Real estate: lead qualification and scoring, property matching, market analysis
    • Home services: after-hours booking, estimate scheduling, job follow-up
    • Retail and e-commerce: inventory forecasting, cart abandonment recovery, personalized recommendations
    • Logistics and operations: real-time tracking dashboards, proactive alerts, document validation

How to Start Without Betting the Business

The businesses getting real ROI from AI aren’t “transforming everything.” They start with one workflow - usually the one leaking the most time or revenue - prove the return, then expand. A good implementation follows three phases: discover the highest-cost workflow, build the agent on your actual business data and test it thoroughly, and deploy it with monitoring so it keeps improving. And a good AI system fits into the tools you already use - your calendar, CRM, POS, phone system - you should never have to rebuild your business around it.

For a fee, candidates may also prepare a statement to be included in the Official Sample Ballot, which is mailed to voters by Los Angeles County. Statements may include the candidate’s name, age, occupation and a brief description of no more than 200 words stating their education and qualifications. The estimated fees range from $700 to $3,200 depending on district, language, statement length and formatting chosen by the candidate.  An additional option for an English Online Only Candidate Statement has an estimated fee of $279.60. The fees are approximated by the Elections Official and due when nomination documents are filed.

Nomination documents will be made available by appointment beginning July 13, 2026, the start of the nomination period, in the City Clerk’s Office, at City Hall, Suite 120, located at 23920 Valencia Boulevard.
