A Blueprint for Enhanced Public Safety

Southern California Edison (SCE) filed its Wildfire Mitigation Plan (WMP) for 2026-2028 with the California Office of Energy Infrastructure Safety (OEIS).

This three-year plan is a blueprint for reducing wildfire risks in our service area. While this WMP builds on past plans, we are launching several pilot programs to test new tools and tactics to improve our mitigation efforts. Opening comments begin in late June with a draft decision around mid-August.

"We developed our three-year plan with a layered defense strategy to help safeguard our communities against wildfire threats," said Steven Powell, president and CEO of SCE. "The heartbreaking January wildfires in Southern California underscore the importance and urgency in advancing mitigations and using new tools to increase infrastructure resiliency and safety. While wildfire risk can never be fully eliminated, we continue to harden the grid and invest in innovative approaches to bring us as close to zero as possible.”

While we develop new tools, Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) will remain an integral part of SCE's strategy to reduce the risk of fire during dangerous weather conditions. To help prepare your community for these electrical disruptions, local and tribal governments are advised to incorporate contingency plans in your Local Hazard Mitigation Plans, share SCE messaging through local channels, and contact SCE to identify sites able to host Community Resource Centers.

Our Wildfire Mitigation Plan reflects our priorities — from hardening the grid to balancing public safety, affordability and a commitment to the communities where we live and serve.

Power on Beverly Hills

The city of Beverly Hills has launched an innovative energy resiliency pilot program for homeowners and businesses called Power On BH. This service offers no-cost technical advice to property owners on how they can withstand power outages. The city has partnered with EcoMotion to provide guidance through June, helping property owners identify options such as solar generation, critical energy loads, and battery storage. Additionally, the city has included links to all critical SCE resiliency programs, including the Self-Generation Incentive Program, marketplace for portable battery and generator rebates, critical care battery backup, as well as the outage page and tips.

SCE has actively supported Beverly Hill's development of a resiliency action plan. We hope this program serves as a valuable model for other cities, demonstrating effective strategies to enhance community resilience and energy reliability in preparation for emergencies and natural disasters.

Short Stories

Wildfire & PSPS Pre-Season Briefings

SCE has taken a proactive approach in preparing our service territory for wildfire season. Since January, we've hosted over 70 public meetings and town halls as well as three pre-season briefings for elected officials and government staff. These were opportunities to come together to discuss resiliency and ways we can partner to better support our communities. Below, you will find resources that were shared during these meetings. If you missed the briefing and would like to learn more about how to prepare, please reach out to your Government Relations Manager.

Energy Savings Assistance

SCE's Energy Savings Assistance program is helping residents lower their energy bills and consumption through no-cost home improvements. Eligible customers can receive upgrades like refrigerators, washing machines, dishwashers, heat pumps, and LED lighting.

The program aims to increase energy efficiency and comfort for families. To qualify, customers must meet specific income guidelines and live in single-family homes or mobile homes within SCE's service area. ESA | Energized by Edison

Frequently Asked Questions

Question: What should I do if I encounter a downed power line?

Answer: If you encounter a downed power line, always assume it is energized and dangerous. Stay at least 100 feet away from the wire. From a safe distance, call 911 and inform the operator that it's an electrical emergency.

If a wire falls on or near your vehicle, stay inside and call 911. Warn others to stay away. If you must leave the vehicle due to fire or other danger, jump clear without touching the vehicle and the ground at the same time. Shuffle away with small steps, keeping your feet close together. Do not return to the vehicle until utility workers say it is safe.
