Five members of the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce traveled to Washington DC June 2-4, 2009 to lobby members of the US House of Representatives and Senate against the Employee Free Choice ACT (EFCA); the bill is also referred to as the “Card Check” legislation. The EFCA eliminates the use of the secret ballot in the unionization process-many feel this would open employees to intimidation and coercion by union organizers. The delegation had meetings with the United States Chamber of Commerce, Senator Dianne Feinstein and Congressman Howard “Buck” McKeon.
